Dr. Mitsugu Watanabe was an international advisory committee member at the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th International Oyster Symposium.
Dr. Mitsugu Watanabe gave a Keynote Speech at the 2nd International Oyster Symposium (2007).
The 4th International Oyster Symposium (IOS4) was held in Tasmania, Australia in September, 2011. The venue was filled with scientists from France, Canada, China, Australia, the United States, Japan and other countries.
During the symposium, Dr. Mitsugu Watanabe gave an oral presentation titled “Identification of a new anti-oxidant substance from Pacific Oyster (Crassostrea gigas) and analysis of anti-oxidant capacity.”
In addition, we gave two poster presentations: “Efficiency of the food containing oyster extract on stress, fatigue and quality of sleep in working persons” by Tomomi Hagiwara, and “Clinical efficiency of Pacific oyster extract on sperm profiles in healthy male subjects” by Emiko Miki.

The company participated in the 5th International Oyster Symposium (sponsored by the World Oyster Society, co-sponsored by the Asian-Pacific Chapter of World Aqua Culture) held in Ho Chi Min City in Vietnam in December 2013.
Watanabe, Ph.D. gave a keynote lecture on the theme “Characterization of an isolated novel antioxidant extracted from Crassostrea gigas,” and chaired the Post Harvest Session.
Three employees of WOL’s Scientific Department presented three themes at the poster session. The poster of Emiko Miki titled “The relationship between selenium supplementation by oyster extract and reduction of the serum cholesterol in type 2 diabetic patients,” was chosen for the Young Researcher Award, which was given to the two most outstanding research themes out of the total of 9 themes in the oral presentations, and the poster presentations by young researchers.
