Basic policy

Watanabe Oyster Laboratory (“WOL”) recognizes the importance of personal information of users or customers as a core constituent of privacy. WOL will not use such personal information for any purpose other than that described below. Except as permitted under the laws and ordinances of Japan, WOL will not disclose or provide personal information of a user or customer to a third party without the prior consent of that individual. All employees are bound by law and internal compliance regulations to handle personal information with the utmost care and respect. The manner in which personal information is handled will be revised and improved over time in order to respond to the trust and expectations of users and customers.

Protection of collected personal information

Definition of personal information

Personal information comprehends all information that could identify an individual, such as name, date of birth, address, as well as phone number and e-mail address. In addition, information that when combined with others could identify an individual are also considered personal information.

Use of personal information

The WOL will use collected personal information for the following purposes:

1. Sending direct mail with health-related information that may be of assistance to customers
2. Sending direct mail with product-related information
3. Sending newsletters and magazines
4. Requesting product-related feedback from customers
5. Writing statistical reports
6. Other relevant purposes based on the consent of the user or customer

Disclosure of personal information to a third party

a) WOL will not disclose or provide personal information to any third party, except on the following cases:

1. Having express prior consent of the individual
2. When required by law and ordinance
3. When necessary in order to protect an individual’s life, physical body, or property and in cases where getting prior permission is not possible.
4. When entrusted to use an individual’s personal information for the activities described in “Use of personal information”.
5. When taking over the responsibility for a service due to the merging, corporate division or any business transfer related changes.
6. When announcing and sending presents to an individual.
7. When using not sensitive personal information for marketing campaigns.
8. When requested by law enforcement agencies for criminal investigations.
9. When necessary in order to prevent illegal behavior in WOL’s services.
10. When contracting e-mail delivery services for the activities described in “Use of personal information”.

b) WOL only discloses information obtained through the use of its services. Information is provided in electronic and paper media.

c) if requested, WOL will stop disclosing an individual’s personal information to third parties.

Outsourcing

WOL only outsources personal information related operations to third parties that have proper protection policies. Nondisclosure agreements are mandatory.

Personal information management

WOL conducts technologic and organizational security measures to prevent unauthorized access, loss, destruction, falsification, as well as leakage of any personal information.

Cookies information

Cookies are the industry standard technology used for identifying a user’s computer (browser). WOL uses cookies in order to obtain user activity information in its websites. Cookies from other websites are not accessible by WOL. Sensitive personal information is only recorded when explicitly written by the user. Cookies can always be disabled, although some of WOL services may not function properly without it.

Correction or deletion of personal information

Those who have agreed on WOL’s “Use of personal information” policy may request the disclosure of their personal information when necessary. Requests for the disclosure of personal information held by WOL as well as requests for the correction or deletion of personal information are to be made through the telephone stated below. We will accommodate your request upon verification of your identity. An explanation will be provided in cases where the requested actions are not possible. WOL may use personal information obtained through the request only for office procedures and contacting the user.
